Metalsmithing Skill Classes

We offer sessions that run one day a week for  5 weeks.  Beginning Metalsmithing offers an introduction or refresher course where we focus on learning about hand tools, and how to apply them. Techniques such as sawing, soldering, and basic fabrication. We fabricate a bezel, a band, and learn to set a round cabochon stone in your ring.   Jewelry II  focuses on detailed piercing, using a flexshaft rotary tool properly, and fine tuning you  sawing skills along with learning about cold connections. This is the opportunity to practice and learn how to create crisp angles and corners, and is a pre-curser to faceted stone setting. Jewelry III is the last skill based class level offered but you can take it as many times as you like. This is all about exploration, and what your project is is determined by you! We’ll talk about your vision and talk through the steps and order of operations, troubleshoot issues before you encounter and proactively discuss  how to tackle a larger project with the group. With direction and oversight you’ll gain confidence to move toward  working  independently!
